My “early career development” at LBS gave me a solid, stress-less and professional transition from school to career”

Thyago Ohana: People say that the time from enrolment up to graduation is pretty much filled with bla-bla-bla, and that real life only meets us when we finally get out of school – and it is quite often filled with first-job-stress and lack of experience.
While it may be true for many, this was not the case for me and certainly for those who took the opportunities Lauder Business School offered to experience what I call “on-campus early career development.”
While dealing with all types of people and personalities, I have been given the chance to develop both my leadership and management skills by engaging myself in opportunities only a small/medium size academic community like ours could offer. And these served as backbone for my early ‘real-world’ career.
After I successfully concluded my internship in the online marketing department of an Austrian company, I was immediately offered a higher managerial position within the same. In this position, I managed to implement a complete new CRM system, re-structure internal operations and run the project of opening a new branch abroad, just to name a few achievements.
While this was clearly achieved neither alone nor overnight, I strongly believe these achievements were the product of my “early career development” at Lauder Business School, which gave me a solid, stress-less and professional transition from school to career.

LBS introduced me to new opportunities and ideas”

Ian Shulman was born in Ukraine and started his studies at LBS when he was 17. Staying in Vienna for three years of his Bachelor, he enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of LBS Campus as well as the opportunity to learn from lecturing professionals from different business fields and the very experience of living in Vienna. Those three years have shaped Ian’s interest in marketing and branding, so after completing an interesting internship at an NGO in Berlin, he has dedicated his Bachelor thesis to branding issues in his home country, Ukraine. Despite of the temptation of changing his life again and trying out something new, Ian has gladly stayed at LBS for completing his Master degree.

in LBS I have found European education and Jewish life perfectly combined”

Tatyana Belousova comes from a small town of Vladimir not far from Moscow. After finishing “Beit Yehudit” girls school in Moscow, she came to Lauder Business School at the age of 17. An opportunity of getting higher education in Europe and living religious Jewish life with no compromises was a decisive factor for her. In Vienna she found a flourishing Jewish life, and LBS Campus with its Synagogue, JHF educational programs and events and wonderful Rabbis were a main part of her Jewish experience. During the studies Tatyana has chosen the Sales and Marketing specialization. Together with knowledge of German, acquired in LBS, it gave her opportunity to do her internship as a production manager assistant in Germany, in the city of Duisburg. Successfully graduating in January 2012, today Tatyana is optimistically looking forward to her professional career.

LBS has broaden my professional horizons and enhanced my jewish consciousness”

Evgenia Pipenko grew up in Russia, where she received her first University degrees and initial working experience. When her parents moved to Germany, she decided to upgrade her education with a Master’s degree on a European level and, therefore, came to study in Lauder Business School. Available Jewish facilities and environment were an important reason for her to make such a decision. After her successful graduation, Evgenia worked in Germany, Israel, and now is rapidly building her career in Austria.

After graduating from LBS, I have reconnected with Jewish life in Bulgaria.”

Lora Alexieva grew up in Sofia, Bulgaria, where her grandparents are committed leaders of the Jewish community. Their courage in working with the Jewish community during World War II, when Bulgaria was allied with Germany, has been a source of inspiration for Lora; nevertheless, by the end of high school, Lora had completely lost contact with her Judaism. She completed a business degree in Bulgaria and joined the sales department of a local TV station, but still felt there was something missing in both her academic training and her social life. She applied to join LBS in the university first entry class and was granted a scholarship to join their business administration program. Today, at the age of 27, Lora is proud of her successful career in Bulgaria’s very active media market and her deeper knowledge of business and Judaism. She has established very special relationships with her fellow students at LBS – “lifetime friendships”.

I was born in Kishinev. Now I work for J.P. Morgan in Frankfurt.”

Alexander Rudevitchii was born 25 years ago in Kishinev and was involved with his family in the revival of Jewish life when Moldova became independent of the Soviet Union. In 1999, his family moved to Germany and his father encouraged him to study at LBS to experience a Jewish university. During his studies, Alexander interned with JP Morgan for six months and was offered a position even before he graduated – one of ten lucky graduates chosen from 120 applicants.

Soon after graduating LBS I moved from Frankfurt to Tel Aviv.”

Maggy Szankower grew up in a traditional Jewish family in Frankfurt, Germany, and after high-school started her career in advertising; in spite of her success, she still felt the wish to take an academic course, and therefore applied to join the first class at LBS. She loved her studies and took advantage of the opportunities at LBS to become involved with the Vienna Jewish community. Upon graduating, she was hired by Bank Austria to manage their re-branding campaign for new markets in Eastern Europe. On a short visit to Israel, she spontaneously decided to apply for a job there; she was hired and packed her bags to moveto Israel. Living in the heart of Tel Aviv, she maintains a busy schedule of work and Hebrew lessons, and enjoys the informal Israeli lifestyle. Some of the friends she made in Vienna have a habit of turning up in Tel Aviv and she has become their Israel address.

At LBS I met bright people from different countries.”

Viktor Gyurov is a 28 years old entrepreneur who is already blazing a trail. From his home community in Bulgaria, where he was elected to take charge of informal education programs for Jewish young people, he moved to LBS in Vienna. There he found the academic program intense, hard work and very useful. So useful, in fact, that a presentation at the school by a British company inspired him to sign up as their Bulgarian representative, only returning to finish his examinations and receive his degree after two successful years of running his business. Today he is a partner in a highly successful international investment consultancy company in Sofia, but keeps in touch with the other bright students from different countries that he met at LBS.

LBS gave me knowledge, values and friends.”

Andras Puskas grew up in a very small Jewish community in Pecs, Hungary; in spite of the lack of Jewish resources, he and a couple of his friends started their own Jewish youth club there. In search of a stronger Jewish connection, he came to study at LBS. The knowledge he acquired there has enabled Andras to find a position in corporate finance with EPIC, an European investment house in Vienna. In addition to his professional life, he continues also involved in Jewish social projects in Austria and Hungary. Most importantly, the values and friendships Andras developed at LBS are still very much alive and are directing his future.

My life has changed after I came to study at LBS”

Maria Burlakova received her first degree in Theater Academy of St. Petersburg and worked there as a theater performance and fundraising manager. She decided to broaden her knowledge of business and came to Lauder Business School, which attracted her also as a place where Shabbat, Kashrut and other Jewish customs can be observed easily while studying. In Vienna Maria has not just finished her second degree, but also got married and found good friends. Now living in Germany, she regards time at LBS as one of the most fruitful and pleasant times in her life.
